Smithsonian Folk Life Festival

On Thursday we headed downtown to the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival.  It is the first year that I really felt comfortable taking the kids down there for the festival--the fact that we were able to go during the week meant it wasn't as crazy crowded as it could have been.
This year Bhutan, Texas, and NASA were the foci of the event.  By far the NASA exhibits were our favorites.  In fact, Texas just got a quick walk through.  We did sit down and listen to some music until Teagan realized the singers weren't "real" cowboys.  Then she really wanted nothing to do with the imposters.  (Note that you should not wear a cowboy hat and boots around Teagan unless you have actually ridden a horse and wrangled some cattle!)

Making craters with different objects from different heights.
Braeden's Mars rover--self designed.

Trying on a space suit glove--the new and improved version.  The guy behind him, also taking pictures is Peter, the inventor of the glove.  (Yes, I only remember that his name is Peter, but it is nice to be on a first name basis in case I ever need gloves like that.)
The robotics station--a favorite of Braeden's!  He is remotely controlling a robot which can pick up and move around balls.
Teagan tried also.

Teagan holding Aerofoam--the lightest building substance on Earth (maybe in space also).  It really feels like nothing in your hand.
